Urban Farm School (3rd Edition)


This edition of Urban Farm School is designed for growing on ground / bigger planter.

The 4 course are conducted both indoor and outdoors for this edition. Course one and two are conducted at farm with hands on, therefore we are opening for individual tickets for those who only wish to attend hands on courses.

Course One — Understanding Soil (Hands - On Course)

Date : 12 Dec (Sat)

Time — 0930 to 1130 (2 hours)

Location : Open Farm Community (130E Minden Road)

Learn the different component and benefits of soil.

  • Vermicast
  • Perlite
  • Vermiculite
  • Coco peat
  • Peat Moss
  • etc

Introduces the basics of planting: teaching participants the methods to sowing seeds, seedling care, cuttings and propagation.

Hands On Teamwork: Building a planter in a team.

All participants will also be bring home a pot of plants that they propagate from the garden.

Course Two : Plant care and maintenance (Hands - On Course)

Date — 12 Dec (Sat)

Time — 1230 to 1430 (2 hours)

Location : Open Farm Community (130E Minden Road)

Guided tour at Open Farm Community with plant identification. During the tour, you will learn:

· How to developing a maintenance routine for your garden

· Observing your plants

· Watering – frequency and volume

· Fertilizing – organic vs non-organic

· Mulching

· Harvesting and seed saving

Hands On : Farm maintenance tasks will be allocated and Seed Saving

All participants will be bring home a small pack of seeds that saved during the course.

Course Three — Understanding your Growing Location

Date : 13 Dec (Sun)

Time : 10am to 12noon (2 hours)

Location : Liang court #B1-06B

You will learn:

· Why grow your own?

· The law and social responsibility

· Microclimates

· Wind

· Heat

· Sunlight

· Rain/Water

· Soil

Hands on : Drawing your own growing location and identify what kind of herbs or vegetable can be grown based on the above condition

Bring home the drawing to start your own edible garden.

Course Four : Pests and disease management and Course wrap up Q &A

Date : 13 Dec (Sun)

Time : 1300 to 1500 (1.5 hours course with 0.5 hour Q&A session)

Location : Liang court #B1-06B

You will learn:

· What are pests and what are not

· Common pests and plant diseases found in Singapore

· Pests and disease management – a natural approach

Organic pesticide formulas will be shared and you will also receive a small bottle of bacteria pesticide to take home.

Q & A questions session will be open to floor if you have questions need to be answered related to your own edible garden. Learn from other people's questions.
